Psalm 81-85

Here's how the study works: Read the chapters mentioned in the heading during the week and share any words, thoughts, verses that stood out to you. Having a week for several chapters creates the opportunity to revisit them and make additional comments as you feel inclined as well as make comments on other people's insights.

81:10-13 Open wide your mouth and I will fill it. But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices. If my people would only listen to me…

God is so willing to bless us if we would have faith to open our mouths, our hearts and minds to those things he wants to give us.

We need to see our heavenly Father as eager to give, not holding back.

82:8 Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance.

One day God will indeed rise up and judge the earth. Christ will return to rule and reign. In the meantime we are to 'reign in life' (Romans 5:17). Knowing God has all things in hand. The nations are his.

83:4 “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.”

Then as now, there are those who want to destroy Israel, God's people, but God plans won't be thwarted. He has always kept a remnant.

84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

God wants to bless us. He has no desire to withhold good things from his people.

85:13 Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.

God wants his people to live righteously and prepares a way for them to do just that. We never have to conform to the world's ways. God will make a way even when they seems to be no way.
